23 April 2024 – Webinar: Physical Privacy in Prison

We’re very pleased that Anna Smart, winner of the 2023 NZCCL VUW Law Essay Prize has agreed to present her work to us at our first webinar for 2024.

We thought her essay Physical Privacy In Prison: Why Dignity is an Inalienable Right and How the Intrusion Tort Can Protect It was not only an interesting exploration of privacy in prisons, but also a good example of how to interpret law in light of the Bill of Rights Act.

Furthermore, her argument that we should improve privacy for segregated prisoners in NZ prisons was not only based on a rights-based analysis but also compared local practice with that of comparable countries overseas. You can read the abstract here.

Anna will talk about her work and there will be time for questions at the end. No registration is required.
