Watch the Police and Facial Recognition webinar

Watch Andrew Chen from the Police Tech Assurance team discuss and answer questions about the Police use of facial recognition from our webinar held in July.

Andrew asked us to publish a couple of corrections:

  • The National Biometrics Information Office, part of Forensic Services, has started Face Comparison work assisted by Facial Recognition Tools at the time of the webinar recording. They have been working within the bounds of the proposed policy, and this is capability that is being slowly built up over time.
  • In contrast to my answer towards the end of the Q+A, the FRT Policy does allow for the use of images obtained from other government agencies under legal authority and under appropriate information sharing arrangements or with court authority. Police does not use the live FRT capabilities of other government agencies.

The Police have now posted the FRT guidelines mentioned in the webinar.
