Outcome of Maritime Powers Bill
The Foreign Affairs, Defence, and Trade Select Committee has reported on the Maritime Powers bill.
In our submission we asked for Human Rights to be affirmed extraterritorially, for searches to be with warrants, and for compensation to be enabled when the crown makes mistakes.
We have one minor win, in that the wording about Human Rights has been improved. The Committee was split on warrant-less search, so no improvement was made. There was no mention of our concern on extra territorial affect of NZBORA, nor of compensation.
