Submission: Vaping Bill

The Council made a submission on the Smokefree Environments and Regulated Products (Vaping) Amendment Bill due to our concerns with the bill's proposal to allow officers to perform searches without a warrant. Section 87 applies to both registered places, which the Council finds acceptable, and to places where "the officer believes on reasonable grounds that it is a place to which this section applies”. The Council believes this warrantless search violates section 21 of the New Zealand Bill of Rights Act (1990).

Thank you

I am proud our Government is introducing a Bill that helps New Zealand achieve our Smokefree 2025 Goal by giving smokers choices in how they give up, but that it also discourages our kids from taking vaping up if they've never smoked before.

I also agree that warrantless arrest is kinda off. Great job! Electronic cigarettes are pretty good alternative to usual cigarettes but it is not proper to see kids using it.
