Submission: Terrorism Suppression (Control Orders) Bill
The very purpose of it, to apply sanctions without sufficient evidence, is directly opposite to the point of civil liberties and the right of New Zealanders to be protected from state overreach.
The Government has made this situation even worse by allowing an absurdly short period to make submissions, making a mockery of the consultative elements of the select committee process. That said, we do not think the Bill is necessary or salvageable.
Our submission making these points and recommending the Bill’s withdrawal is attached.
